Everyone's Complaining About Idol…

…you might as well, too. Tonight, Jamie Foxx mentors the remaining Idols in Music from the Movies, apparently because he was in Ray. Last year he mentored the Idols in Music of The Rat Pack, apparently because he was in Ray. Next year, he’ll mentor contestants in–what?–Music from The Blues Brothers? Ray Charles was in that!

As Roger Catlin observes, it’s like Idol has pretty much stopped trying at this point. Maybe the departure of Simon Cowell will be the kick the show needs to reinvent itself next season. Or the kick it needs to hasten its death spiral and get replaced by Cowell’s The X Factor. In any case, we’ve talked aplenty about what we haven’t liked this year. Is there anything you’d like to see Idol do next year to revive itself?

Spoilers for the season finale of Glee below:

One beef I often have with Glee episodes is that they move too fast, go in too many directions, try to cram in too much at once. You might say that about “Goodbye,” the season 3 finale, but in this case that approach seemed about right. It’s an episode about graduation, and graduation is something that, no matter how much you plan for and anticipate it, still goes too fast. Graduating is something you do, but in the moment it feels like something that happens to you, suddenly and all at once, like going over a waterfall.

This is the 9th season? I think? Anyways Idol has been on for a very long time! I think people are just getting tired of ‘same old same old’ every year. This season -has- been kinda boring. With Simon gone it will be worse, IMO, so they should just kill it now and make room for The X Factor.

I used to enjoy Idol and watch it all the time. Once David Cook won, I stopped watching regularly because it fulfilled the kind of winner I wanted. I think the show hit its peak that season and has taken a downward slide ever since.

All of the new contestants remind me of previous finalists. The winners have represented many of the genres of music and it is less interesting–at least to me.

    Simon is wise to leave.

I want to see more singing, less filler, shows ending on time, and shorter results shows (I might actually watch the results shows if they weren’t these drawn out spectacles. Get to the votes and lets move on).

This season has been boring, although I totally agree with this top 4. Michael is going home tonite, I’d say.
