The Morning After: Tiptoe Through the Tulips

FOX
FRINGE: The team (L-R: Joshua Jackson, Lance Reddick and Anna Torv) investigates an unsettling incident on a commuter train in the FRINGE episode "White Tulip" airing Thursday, April 15 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. ©2010 Fox Broadcasting Co. CR: Liane Henschner/FOX

No time for a full review of last night’s Fringe, “White Tulip,” but after having done some earlier grousing about how the show balances mythology and standalone episodes, this one did a much better job reconciling the two. I don’t need Fringe to become a Lost-like serial (whatever my personal preferences). But I found this approach, in which the episode dealt with Walter’s guilt over Peter’s abduction while also dealing with the case at hand, preferable to the X-Files strategy of having the standalones ignore the serial story, to the point of seeming almost to take place in a parallel universe. Which you particularly don’t want in a series about parallel universes.

Note: Yes, I am aware that it is not the morning anymore, at least where I’m sitting. See “no time,” above.

Another great performance from John Noble. I like that as this season has moved along, he’s been able to show a more serious intellectual side to Walter and not just the silly mental patient that many of the early episodes tended towards. I imagine that this is all a part of his character development, (the further he gets from his time in the crazy house the more his “real” personality comes out) but it’s still nice to see.

And I’ve almost totally forgotten that Joshua Jackson was in Dawson’s Creek.

I see a big second half for this show.

It was a great episode and a nice nod to that great Star Trek: TNG episode where the crew is stuck in a time loop.

I think Josh Jackson is wonderful, and yes, that comes from years of watching Dawson’s Creek. He’s the reason I watched the show to begin with, and I wish they’d do more with his character – tho, I figure that’ll be very necessary as the Peter abduction storyline continues…

No one needs to apologize for watching Dawson’s Creek around here! Joshua Jackson was my favorite thing about the show.
