Idol Stones Night: Can You Get What You Want?

American Idol‘s final 12 kick off the finals tonight with the music of The Rolling Stones (look for my picture-gallery reviews to post overnight), and somewhere Tyler Grady is cursing fate that he never got the chance to properly show off his Jagger strut. The choice of artist means that, as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, someone will sing “Satisfaction,” “Gimme Shelter” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” But EW’s Michael Slezak offers some song choices for the finalists including some off-the-beaten-8-track Stones songs.

To his wish list I’d add: “Dead Flowers” for Casey James, “Wild Horses” for Crystal or Michael instead of Katie, and for Andrew Garcia—how about “Angie,” but acoustic with a reggae beat? In fact, looking down the list, I’m reminded how badly this season needs a few contestants who can rock out. Someone could win a lot of points with me with a convincing “Shattered,” but I’m not holding my breath. Any requests?
