The Morning After: Anyone Still Traumatized by NBC?

Coming back from a vacation is a pain in the ass, isn’t it? It is for NBC, which, its second week back from its blissful Canadian Olympics idyll, is now back in the soggy late-winter reality of its usual shows and its normal ratings. (Indications are that Jay Leno’s high return ratings may also be coming back to reality, though as I said before, we need to hold off a while on drawing conclusions.)

Chuck has been doing fairly well—for Chuck—but last night that still meant fourth place in its timeslot. (By the way, Chuck fans, I watch the show too sporadically for writeups, getting ahead on screeners or catching up in chunks when I have the time, so see Alan Sepinwall, Maureen Ryan or, for a dissenting opinion, Dan Fienberg on last night’s Zachary Levi-directed episode.)

And Trauma came back last night, perhaps surprising people who’d assumed it was cancelled. (Perhaps including the NBC publicity department, which has not made photo stills for the show available since the above one from November.) I wanted to like this Peter Berg drama, but having given it a couple chances, I’ve checked out of that hospital. Anyone want to make the argument for giving it one last chance?

I thought this was the best Chuck episode of the season, but, then again, I’d watch a Jeffster PPV concert, so maybe that’s just me.

Castle had the most egregious ratings stunt I’ve seen in a while, with a dominatrix murder plot complete with women-in-leather 5-second montages every so often to keep the rubes roped in (pun intended).

It’s funny too, because that was one of the more boring episodes of Castle all year. Ah well.

    And yes, Chuck was great.
