Happy Lost Day! Take a Look at This, Freckles

On his Twitter feed yesterday, Star-Ledger critic Alan Sepinwall posted a link to this voluminous, two-part YouTube collection of one of Lost’s biggest pleasures: Sawyer’s nicknames:

We can talk mythology and literary references and theories all day long, but this is why I really love this show: it’s just incredibly, joyously fun, and while that’s not the only thing that matters, a show can’t be truly great without a sense of humor. (This is true of novels, too, by the way. Ulysses? Hilarious! I’m not kidding.)

What are your favorite memories of our favorite con man? If you need your memory refreshed, part two of the greatest-hits video is after the jump:

Who are we to argue with Taller Ghost Walt?

Spoilers for the season finale of Glee below:

One beef I often have with Glee episodes is that they move too fast, go in too many directions, try to cram in too much at once. You might say that about “Goodbye,” the season 3 finale, but in this case that approach seemed about right. It’s an episode about graduation, and graduation is something that, no matter how much you plan for and anticipate it, still goes too fast. Graduating is something you do, but in the moment it feels like something that happens to you, suddenly and all at once, like going over a waterfall.

I love him for giving one of the greatest deliveries of a commonly used phrase ever: “Son of a bitch!”–always delivered in the most exasperated way possible. It never gets old!

Sawyer is my very favorite. I love his storyline–I love seeing how he’s softened but still kept his edge.

Taller Ghost Walt is my favorite line of his. I also like when he asks Juliet and Jack if they’re arguing over who’s their favorite Other.

I absolutely loved seeing Sawyer with Juliet. Two excellent characters with excellent actors in a happy place, content with where the Island has taken them. If Juliet dies (or Sawyer thinks Juliet dies), I’m really looking forward to some angry/bitter Sawyer action.

Sawyer is my favorite too :) and Sawyer and Juliet were awesome. Taller Ghost Walt was, indeed, one of the cleverest things the character has ever said :)

My favorite “funny” Sawyer moment – teaching English to Jin in “Tricia Tanaka”
    .
2nd fave – the great frog hunt (I’m blanking on the ep)
    .
Favorite “serious” Sawyer moment – the aftermath of his killing Cooper (“The Brig”)
    .
2nd fave – When Juliet falls (“The Incident”)

I love the many sides of Sawyer: funny/sarcastic, conning/menacing, and heroic/poignant. I especially loved him in Follow the Leader. He was totally willing to take a beating to protect his comrades, but then didn’t hesitate to sell them all out when Juliet’s safety was directly threatened. Even though you knew it wouldn’t work out, it was still satisfying to see him bid “good riddance” to the Island and tell Juliet they’d be free in the real world. Sigh.

Favorite funny lines (besides “taller ghost Walt”):
“Let’s just say, something was burning, and it wasn’t from the sunshine.”
“I requested that cage, but whatever.”
