The ABC publicity department wants none of us to get any work done today, because yesterday it posted two publicity stills of the cast of Lost re-creating Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper. Bigger versions of the photos (apologies for the right-hand column overrunning them; if I can get it cleaned up while retaining the full-size photos, I will), and my guesses at their meaning, after the jump:

1. Christianity, and the religion of Judaism from which the seder tableau of the supper derives, are complex belief systems run through with symbol and widely subject to interpretation. So is Lost.
2. As in Christianity, people come back from the dead in Lost (see Locke in the Christ position at table).
3. You will notice that there are two photos. The reason: in one, the actors are reproducing the poses from the DaVinci painting. In the other, they are looking at you, so you can see them better.
4. The final season of Lost returns Feb. 2, and ABC would like you to make plans to watch.
In all seriousness, I don’t think there’s much more vital information in these photos than in much of what has come out of ABC’s promo department in seasons past, other than using a favorite TV-ad gimmick and throwing in a lot of symbols to invite Paul-Is-Dead-style analysis. But for those of you who have more time on your hands—and better knowledge of the Apostles—than I do, go nuts.
