The Ice Mensch Cometh

Elsewhere on time.com Sean Gregory has a story about Stephen Colbert’s quest to get the Colbert Nation to fund U.S. Olympic speedskating. Turns out it’s not just a publicity ploy—well, maybe it is that too—but a serious shot in the arm that could save a prominent U.S. Olympic sport. Given the awesomeness of the sport and the obvious comic potential of full-body Spandex, this is a win-win that could presage a wave of late-night charity-publicity symbiosis. If only there were a beer pong team for Jimmy Kimmel to sponsor!

I thought Fallon was the Beer Pong late night host….

Colbert deserves mad props for this, though….I hope his “nation” comes through for the team.

(Personally, I’d love to see Colbert supports his alma mater, Northwestern, in sports. I’m sure they’d name something after him, too….)
