The Morning After: Cement Shoes

As I mentioned yesterday, my visit to the Monty Python reunion means I have a greater Thursday-TV backlog than usual. (I did catch the weak, overly wacky “Mafia” episode of The Office, which doesn’t require much comment.) So use this space to discuss any of last night’s shows. In the meantime, I’m thinking of taking the advice of one commenter last week and watching the last five minutes only of FlashForward. I bet there’s a twist!

    Disagree on The Office: “Mafia.” I thought it was a very solid, stand-alone episode of the show and a great rebound from the wedding aisle dance spectacular of last week.

    It was great to see Mike Starr of Goodfellas and Summer of Sam fame as “Gratti.”

    I’ve also got the Erin deleted scene in my review:

    Yes, JP, by all means, watch the last five minutes of FlashForward and nothing before. The show should be called Repetition because that’s all we get: endless repeats of characters’ flash forwards (How many times have we seen the wife’s vision? 15, 16) and the same FBI agents arguing with their same boss about a lead they could follow up on if their boss didn’t think it was so outlandish. Last night’s show brought to mind Lost and Michael Jackson, and not in good or interesting ways. Spoiler, if anybody really gives a hoot: the last five minutes feature an old friend who really should be doing something else.

    Though it’s still better than Dollhouse. (Prepared to recieve lots of flak if anybody bothers to respond.)

    @rosseau re:last comment, quite so.

    Still, I think I do need to take an extended break from FF. When I find myself griping about the lensing, shot blocking, scoring and the merits of the Meisner technique during the episode in lieu of enjoying myself, um, yeah, it’s time for me to step off the bus and reevaluate.

    So, this is not really a ‘Dear John’ letter of the ‘It’s not me, it’s you…oh, wait…’ variety, coz i’ll still DVR it for possible review over the Christmas break, or thereabouts. They do have 20 or so eps to make me a believer. Or not.

    Meanwhile, Stargate Universe seems promising, so i’ll be geeking out over at syfy till then.
