NBC vs. Glee: Battle of the Network Stars

What with all the singing and dancing and costumes, you would think that the cast of Glee and a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float would go together like turkey and cranberries. But you would be forgetting that the Macy’s parade airs on NBC, which reportedly forced Macy’s to retract an offer to the kids from Glee to perform in the parade.

This kind of stinginess about acknowledging the existence of a popular show on another network seems petty and stingy, but that’s the kind of world we live in, and NBC is not exactly doing well enough that it feels it can sit down with Fox like the Pilgrims dining with the Indians. This comes on the heels of reports that other networks’ talent are staying off The Jay Leno Show—at the other networks’ behest, NBC’s or both.

It makes one long for Battle of the Network Stars, when actors from rival networks would meet in primetime to set aside their petty squabbles on the proving ground of the obstacle course. After the jump, Melissa Gilbert and Kristy McNichol take us back to a more innocent time:
