The Morning After: Will and Disgrace

I did not watch I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! last night. I feel invigorated and empowered by that decision. From having scanned the recaps, however, I know that Spencer and Heidi—shockingly!—returned to the show to plead with the other cast members to let them back on, so that their fame can be devalued even further. When the live portion of the show ended, only two of the other celebs had voted to let them return.

Riiiiiight. So the producers are going to throw up their hands and announce that democracy has won the day. I can only assume that after the cameras cut out, local mercenaries with machine guns moved in and announced a voting “consensus,” Ba’ath-Party style.

Of course, even to joke that there is any real tension between the cast and the producers probably plays into the hands of what increasingly looks like a ratings scam from the get-go, either on Speidi’s part or the producers’. I have no inside info about that, of course, but I’m either enabling Speidi or NBC, if not both, by paying further attention, so I’ll drop it here.

In other questionable-reality show news, that Will Ferrell guest turn on Man vs. Wild posted boffo numbers for Discovery Channel, drawing more male viewers 18 to 49 than any competing show Tuesday, including broadcast TV. That makes me a big old girl, because I didn’t watch that, either. What did Tuned Inlanders with more testosterone than me think?
