The Morning After: Jon & Kate, Divided

Last week, 9.8 million people watched the season 5 premiere of Jon & Kate Plus 8—the first since the family of multiples went through a circus of adultery charges—and judging by the comments at Tuned In and elsewhere, every single one of them vowed never to watch the show again.

We’ll see when the ratings come in whether that held true for last night’s double shot of shows. But I again wonder whether the simple weirdness of watching the series try to deal with / paper over / largely ignore the off-camera drama will ruin the show for viewers. This time, we saw Jon and Kate each taking separate vacations while the other played house with the kids; for the backstory, however, you have to turn to a grocery-store newsrack near you. Did anyone stick around to watch, or is it all getting too weird and awkward?
