The Morning After: Sent a Mental

FOX
FOX

Did anyone watch the premiere of Fox summer drama Mental last night? I could barely get through the House-in-a-psych-hospital pilot, but if you saw something in it that I didn’t by all means state your case. Am I nuts?

That, or weigh in on Rescue Me, which has moved (mostly) past the zany indulgences of the past couple seasons and gotten back to its black-comic roots. I’ve been remiss in blogging it so far this season, but I promise to get around to it first thing after all the other first things. Forgive me, Tommy.

The only “new” show I’m watching is Twin Peaks, which just started its first season on some HD channel (Crime and Investigation?). I’m still finding it mesmerizing 20 years later.

As for Mental, I couldn’t make it through a 30-second commercial.

Watched ‘Mental’ this am. I like the concept. Interesting idea. Has some pitfalls e.g., the 2 residents–either weakly written, poorly casted or insufficiently directed.
    .
The lead has his moments, and the supporting actors have potential to get better with more material.
    .
Methinks if ‘Mental’ gets more comfortable in its own skin, could become a contender. What I took away from the pilot is a sensitive, respectful portrayal of a seemingly ‘taboo’ topic (mental disease) in the public square.
    .
    I’ll be watching/recording.

Or ‘poorly cast’, for that matter.
