The Morning After: Not-Idol Edition

I’m told there were other things on TV besides American Idol last night; considering that Tuesday’s final performance show was the lowest-rated ever, there’s a good chance you even watched some of them. For those of you who didn’t, and would never, blow two hours and seven minutes waiting for the results of a pop-music contest, how did you spend your night?

I always feel a bit uncomfortable bring ye olde sports into this blog, because, ya know, there are so many many places to talk about sports, but you asked the question.

I spent last night watching the Orlando Magic beat the Cleveland Lebrons by a single point after being down by 15 at halftime. Great theater. I’m a fan of the Idol, but no way was Kris upsetting Adam (which, I predicted and don’t think is an upset at all, but whatever) more entertaining then the bipolar Magic toppling the Cavalier juggernaut in Cleveland where they had only lost a single game all season.

Sports = television’s answer to summer programming.

I thought it was a great finale! Lots of fun singers.

During the commercials though I watched Night at the Museum, which I would have watched all the way through if Idol weren’t on.

@Ashman – my wife and I just bought a house and are moving next weekend, so I’ve missed a LOT of the NBA and NHL playoffs (I prefer hockey to basketball, but playoff basketball can be pretty amazing). I missed all of that legendary Bulls-Celtics series, and then I missed a great game 1 between Orlando and LeBron. I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying it at least :)

I’m with Ashman. But I was rooting for the Cavs. Still, it was a great game. Other than that, no TV for me, except Jeopardy where I got to see a guy I immediately hated squander a huge lead. That was enjoyable.

“Sports = television’s answer to summer programming.” So true–I’ve been ramping up my Cubs game intake, including last night.

I’m on vacation with my family, which means that I was stuck watching MSNBC all freaking day. Which means that I was spending lots of time outside. I convinced my dad to let me turn the channel at 10pm to see the results (it was grudgingly permitted, but he wouldn’t be in the same room as American Idol). Go Kris!

@Bemused – You have my deepest condolences. A very good friend of mine is a huge Chicago fan (we’re in Milwaukee), and this year he’s vowed not to get excited about anything Cubs-related until they win a playoff game. He’s sick of having his heart broken every year, and so far, he’s holding up pretty well.

@Rorschach – My wife and I watch Jeopardy pretty regularly, and we’ve found ourselves watching a lot of Wheel of Fortune. The show is strangely intoxicating. (And apparently, according to tvbythenumbers, it gets pretty good ratings)
