I was actually happy to realize that last night’s How I Met Your Mother was a rerun. It freed me up to watch the episode of The Amazing Race that I’d left on TiVo because of the Oscars. (Side note: with DVRs in over 20% of homes and rising, it makes ever more sense to counterprogram original episodes against big events like the Oscars. And likewise, it may make ever more sense to air reruns the day after an event like the Oscars, to get out of the way of time-shifted viewing.)

If you haven’t watched TAR in a while, or never watched to begin with, this is looking like a good season to jump on board. (Minor spoiler alert) Mel White—the gay evangelical minister running the race with his son, screenwriter Mike White—is quickly becoming one of my favorite reality contestants of all time: a decent, thoughtful religious man who made a point of refusing to pray for the Lord’s help in a challenge because he realizes that God has better things to worry about than who wins a freaking reality show.

Have you been following the race this season? Or feel free to chime in on last night’s Chuck, which of course is still on my TiVo.
