Friday Night Open Thread

It will probably be a while before I get to tonight’s Battlestar Galactica, so I’ll leave you the keys to commence discussion in the meantime. (There didn’t seem to be many takers to discuss last week’s Friday Night Lights, so feel free to comment on that here too; if it becomes an issue, I’ll do separate threads in future weeks. )

I think Ron Moore’s directorial debut was a another brilliant hour of television. The fleet has a major hangover — and some of them are starting to sober up. No wonder Adama’s popping pain pills.

Just wanted to say I loved Friday Night Lights. It’s just not a show that lends itself to conversation I guess. There’s something a little sad about this year, as if it’s senior year and everyone knows their going to move one soon (because of cancellation). But it’s a good kind of sad, a nostalgic one. I loved it when the entire team got together to help out Smash.

Did anyone else notice a timeline issue with this week’s episode of FNL? The scene with the team playing with Smash on the field seemed out of sequence with the Riggins-Lila dinner timing and Matt’s trip to see his mother. I don’t know – maybe I was misunderstanding what day we were at when – but I just thought I’d check.

That being said, I’m loving that FNL is back, and am very much hoping it gets a reprieve for another season.

I thought that Friday’s BSG was an excellent follow-up to the premiere episode. Mary McDonnell was absolutely terrific – it was nice for her to get to act happy and full of life, for the first time in a long time. I see her actions as somewhat parallel to Dee’s – just wanting to have control over the only little piece of the universe she could by living and dying on her own terms.

I was having a lot of trouble with Gaeta this whole episode, I wanted to punch him, or shake him, but especially in light of the webisodes they’ve done a good job of showing him falling apart gradually over time.

I’m down to toughing out this last season of BSG just so I can get some closure. What happened to the action on this show? BSG has turned into Days of our Lives in Space. I was so excited when I thought there was going to be a raiding party on board the fuel ship, but no! That would have taken valuable emoting time away from the actors. And what was the point of having the chief’s kid not be the chief’s kid? Soap Opera my friends. Remember when Baltar was awesome? That seems long ago.
