Happy New Year’s. If all has gone according to plan, today is the day that the Tuned In household hosts its annual New Year’s Day open house / lasagna party. (Why lasagna? Why the hell not! It was good enough for Garfield!)
There’s usually a football game on at some point during the festivities, but as I’ve mentioned at length here, I’m not really a sports guy. I used to follow college football closely, but I stopped somewhere around the time that they stopped naming bowl games after fruit and started naming them after express-delivery companies.
For those of you who are still fans, are the bowl games still a big part of your holiday TV routine? And what do you think about the perennial playoffs idea?
For those of you who aren’t sports fans, a tribute to another New Year’s pastime. I can’t offer you a cocktail, but YouTube does offer a concert video from The Jazz Butcher, a.k.a. Pat Fish, author of one of the early ’80s finest drinking songs, “Partytime” (song starts at about three minutes in). It’s better than a cold bath with someone you dislike:
