Swag Photography: Unpack Your Knives and Kill

knives_webPerhaps the folks at Bravo, assembling this Top Chef-themed holiday promo were not aware that it’s a difficult time in the media business. But I’m thinking this is perhaps not the best time to be sending sharp implements to newsrooms across America.

[Update: Bravo confirms that this is, in fact, a set of cheese knives, encased in a handsome cutting board that can then be reversed to serve the cheese. I will take the "knives" as a metaphor for the cutting wit of Tim Gunn, and the "cheese" as a metaphor for The Real Housewives of Orange County. In any case, these should be a hot item at Time's next charity swag sale.]

Just wondering…do you actually have to purchase holiday presents? Or do you get enough promos that you can just take those home and wrap them up instead? Because this set looks a lot nicer than the things I end up buying for most of my relatives…

@molly: The knives are a little weird, actually. The longest blade is like three or four inches. I’m not quite sure what I’d chop with them. (Not to sound ungrateful. I mean, I didn’t get Bravo anything!)

Every year after Thanksgiving, Time has a staff swag sale for charity to which we contribute a lot of such items accumulated over the year. This will probably go to that. I can’t exactly regift them to a relative having posted the evidence online!

When I first read the title and saw the picture I thought it was a promo from Dexter…which probably would have been really disturbing.

Haha, yogi, I thought the same thing. All those odd shaped blades really scream ‘killing tools’.

Looks like a set of cheese knives to me… Probably not the most effective killings tools. :) The one with holes is for soft cheeses like brie, and the others for harder cheeses. Plus it looks like it even came packaged in a nice wood cheeseboard! I’d take this set! :)
