CNN: McCain to Do SNL This Weekend

According to the Political Ticker blog, John McCain is going to appear on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, where he’s been a favorite guest over the years. I don’t know how effective appearances like this can be at this point in the race—or any other point, for that matter—but when you’ve got an opponent who’s spending his Brewster’s Millions* on primetime specials and ads in videogames, it makes sense to grab the national media you can. And it draws you a bigger crowd than doing a rally in Ohio at 11:30 p.m. E.T.

*Update: Tom Shaw beat me to this joke! Mea culpa! Note to self—steal material from other people’s commenters next time.

    “spending his Brewster’s Millions”

    Hey, I demand a cite!

But in truth, is anyone spooked out by how much McCain seems to be following the Bob Dole storyline – electorally walloped by a younger, more charismatic, Democratic opponent, he eventually has a second life on late night TV, where the viewers continually wonder why they didn’t see this charismatic, funny side of him during the election?
