Strike Watch: The Astronaut's Mother

Over at Deadline Hollywood Daily, Nikki Finke has been running a series of essays from striking writers titled Why We Write. The latest, from Lost’s Damon Lindelof, explains the uncontrollable urge to tell stories, but to get there, you first need to hear a little story about a 90-year-old woman, a train, and the question of whether you can get e-mail in space. It’s a brilliant little piece, and a sad one, because it will inevitably leave you wondering how it might have been worked into Lost as a subplot, and then you will realize that until the strike is over, nobody’s going to be doing that.

Three weeks until the first Lost episode of season 4. How many weeks until the ninth episode, nobody knows. Sigh.
