JPTV: What I Can't Entirely Explain Why I Won't Be Watching Tonight

I’ve thought for some time that I should have a term for a show that I generally admire, enjoy whenever I by chance end up watching it, then promptly thereafter forget its existence for months, for no reason I can satisfyingly explain.

Maybe I should call this kind of show a “Scrubs.” When it came on the air in 2001, I gave it a very good review and have ever since enjoyed it so much that I hardly ever watch it. I can’t quite tell you why. True, I’m not a big fan of the fantasy sequence-itis. (David E. Kelley called! He wants his narrative crutch back!) But Scrubs is hardly a non-sequitur-fest like Family Guy; it’s funny but also has heart and a little pathos, and ooh!, that Zach Braff! I could just eat him up! And yet I don’t watch. Show somehow never closed the deal. So it remains a “Scrubs” for me.

But somebody’s kept watching, and tonight it comes back to kick off its final season. Will you be there? And what show is your personal “Scrubs”?
