The Humans Are Alive!

HBO has renewed Flight of the Conchords. Also, some show about movie stars.

Mad Men Character Study: Sympathy for Betty

Sue me, but I like Betty Draper/Francis as a character. The problem is that Mad Men doesn’t. Betty’s not the worst character on the show, but she’s probably the worst-served.

Fligt of the Concords needs new songs. They are at bottom of the barrell.

What’s with the Entourage hate here at Tuned In? It’s one of my top three favorite shows and yet I haven’t found any good forum for discussion of the episodes. This being my favorite TV blog by far (especially for it’s wise commenters) I would love to have an ‘Entourage Watch’, or at least a reason why there isn’t one.

I can understand not taking it seriously in the first seasons, but it’s really growing as a show and has some great, conversation-worthy themes in it lately. What gives?

How can you turn your back on a show with dialogue like “You will go upstairs and f*ck my wife like the superstar you are while I stay down here and play billiards with your friends.”

(BTW, I’ve been waiting for a post that allowed me this segue for quite some time)

There used to be an Entourage watch, the low quality of the current season got it killed.

I’m willing to believe it could get good again, but this season is really lame. Season 1, so much was going on I’m always surprised to realize it was only 8 episodes.

Now it feels like they just kill time through each episode. Lame jokes, last week barely even had attempted humour, it was painfully dull.

That said, I’m sure getting back to it’s old quality standards will bring it back to Tuned In.

What Mike said, pretty much. There’s virtually no serial storyline anymore. There’s not much to analyze in, “Drama and Turtle try to nail a couple of chicks but there’s a comical screwup, Ari comes up with a scheme and yells at somebody, Eric gets moony-faced over a girl and Vince gets laid again.” (I exaggerate, but, you know, not much.)

Really, that’s a problem with doing a Watch on non-serial sitcoms even when they’re at their creative peak–hence I don’t even do Conchords every week, and, during the regular season, I’ll do How I Met Your Mother only occasionally although it’s one of my favorite network sitcoms.

Well now James, your love for HIMYM confirms we are of like minds when it comes to TV. That, along with Entourage and Lost are my three favorite shows.

I see what you’re saying about the non-serialized shows being harder to discuss, but I disagree that there’s been no plot development. Just this past week, Eric has been put in the position of expanding his client list. With Vince’s movie starting production soon – a movie that Eric will not be working on – this sets up a very unique dynamic between these two characters who’ve spent their life as best friends. How will it change them?

As far as Turtle and Drama goes, Drama is comedy gold, and even I’m getting a little bit sick of Turtle, real a character as he is (I know many guys that are exactly that lame).

Depending on the quality of this weekend’s episode, maybe I’ll hijack a mecha-James auto-post to talk it over.

FotC, on the other hand, I feel has totally fallen off. The last three weeks have been boring and silly.

“Boring and silly?” Be more constructive with your feedback, please.

Entourage is kind of like Rescue Me and Scrubs for me — I’ll usually watch and get a couple laughs, and I don’t want them to get canceled, but I mostly just long for the earlier seasons. The thrill is gone, you know?

Then again, maybe in 2010 I’ll be watching season 4 of FoTC and bitching that it went downhill after season 1.

There’s no way FOTC can last beyond 2 seasons. I love the show, but I just can’t see them having enough ideas for more than like 25 episodes.
