Barbara Walters Makes Whoopi

Queen Babs has filled one of the vacancies at The View roundtable, hiring Whoopi Goldberg. From the ABC press release:

Barbara Walters, creator/executive producer and co-host of ABC’s “The
View,” officially announced today, live on “The View,” that Whoopi Goldberg has
been named moderator of her Emmy® Award-winning morning talk and entertainment
show. Since the show’s inception, Ms. Goldberg has made thirteen guest
appearances and has been a guest co-host fourteen times. She will debut on “The
View” on September 4 (11:00 a.m.–12:00 noon, ET), the start of the show’s
eleventh season.

Two thoughts. 1. I love that official phrasing–”has been named moderator”–as if the unfilled Vieira seat is the Chief Justice position on the Supreme Court. 2. Makes perfect sense to me. Another politically-minded female comedian known for being tactically outrageous, perhaps not quite at the peak of her career and so not as likely to bolt in a year or so. Rosie lovers and Rosie haters, what say you?

Sorry, I don’t fit the demographic.

Whoopi is gonna make Rosie look like Joy Behar…

I’m excited. I think Whoopi is actually a better fit than rosie. She’s just as liberal, and she convey’s her points much more logically, Rosie tended to be to emotional. Ratings wont be as good however, Rosie brought drama, and drama means ratings. Go Whoopi. I hope they bring Kathy Griffin on though, how awesome would that be.

dunno about this one. sure, she’s controversial and says what’s on her mind…when she actually talks. i’ve seen her lately and she doesn’t say that much. she holds back when you expect her to open up.

I love Whoopie and I love that Whoopie doesn’t have a blog to posture from. I swear if I see one more mispelled, uncapitalized ‘haiku’ from Rosie’s blog I’m going to find her keyboard and snap it in two.

Personally, I would love to see Kathy Griffin on as well simply because I love her show. I think she’s hysterical and I hope the best for her. Snarky comments aside, I think she’d do really well. And I think Whoopie could totally reign her in if she went too far out on the ‘Gaykin’ limb or something similar.

Whoopie is a sharp little cookie; bright, intelligent, articulate, edgy, funny and compassionate. She also knows “the biz.” She’ll do just dandy.

Why must the view continue to use uglier and uglier replacements? Aren’t there any witty and attractive women who want to do this show?
