There’s no Arts section proper this week in the print Time, because most of the issue is given over to the Time 100, in which I sing the praises of Tina Fey. Fey is one of several TV-related honorees, who also include America Ferrera, Simon Fuller, Rosie O’Donnell, Shonda Rhimes and Brian Williams.
I didn’t make the call to put any of them on the list: that decision is made above my pay grade, behind closed doors by a chicken pecking at feed pellets on a massive grid of famous faces Time’s editors. But I’m glad Fey made the list, and glad that NBC picked up 30 Rock, so that her Time 100 victory was not a Pyrrhic one. Because really, if your consolation prize is a 300-word tribute written by me, you’re better off hoping for a toaster oven.
